This image seriously stopped me in my tracks.

I don't know what it was...the shot of colour from the vintage Eames chair, the striking shell-like centrepiece or that hide (ok-so faux would be better). I think it's just a simple case of all these elements and more make up a pretty spectacular room!

This is the home of interior designer, Marie Olsson Nylander and no wonder it seems to be popping up on so many blogs - it's unbelieveable! The mixture of colours, patterns and textures she's created in her home is the best I've seen in a long time. This image, I hadn't seen, which I found here via Annaleena's blog.

Take a look there too..it's worth it! x

One week on

Here I am again, writing my post following another upholstery class.
Hopefully there won't be a full week till my next post this time!

So, this is what I'll be tackling next.
So far, I've stripped it back and think I'll ebonise the frame.

I'm thinking of using a nice rich velvet for the upholstery as I want to retain a classic feel to complement the age of the chair.

I particularly love the fabric on the seat pad above, available from Linwood.

Their fabrics are ideal for what I'm looking for...the velvets for a traditional feel, with a contemporary twist through the use of pattern and they also have a lovely range of colourways. I'll let you know what I decide!

Stumbled

A spot of weekend browsing brought me here.

This store is a delight...(I'm still fixated on the awning and signage outside!)

bursting with antique finds sourced locally...

...and also from European markets by it's talented owners (who obviously have a great eye for detail!)

Patina Green also trades as a daily market, with fresh local produce on offer...

...and lunches being served by one of the owners, who also happens to be a classically trained chef.

I couldn't think of a better combination - browsing vintage treasures followed by a lovely fresh lunch!

Apologies! I also can't think where I stumbled across this lovely store!

A woman after my own heart

Sheryl Crow happens to be one of my all-time favourite singer/songwriters and having come across her New York loft over at Simply Grove, it's confirmed she not only has exceptional musical talent but also impeccable taste too. A neutral colour palette throughout softens the industrial elements within the space, such as the concrete flooring in the bathroom and the light fittings in the hallway. Add to this an amazing array of curiosities and you end up with an eclectic and homely space definitely worth lusting over.

'If I can re-use something or give it a new life, that's definitely better than throwing it out.' - Sheryl Crow

My thoughts exactly!!! Have a happy weekend. x

One chair, two chairs, three chairs, four....

This image from the Parisian home of writer, Catherine Taret, confirms that you can never have too many chairs!! Yay!

One thing which I have always believed but which our flat has told us otherwise.

We've been Re-Funked!

These guys are a furniture recycling initiative with a difference who collect unwanted furniture and reintroduce it to the public in a creative new guise...the services they offer are endless! Their studio is an Aladdins cave of amazing pieces, both funked and un-funked, and for a chair fanatic like me, it was nearly too much to bear! In the end we came away with four side chairs, a coffee table and a nice big table for me which I intend to paint up and use as my desk....more about that later, but in the meantime stop what you're doing and head on over to Re Funk Your Junk for some serious furniture therapy!

Hmmm, I feel another purchase coming on!
