Il pleut des cordes!

What a day. It's never stopped and even Larry won't go out in it!!
On a much brighter note, we're off to Paris tomorrow to meet up with our friends, so here's hoping the skies over the Seine will be as blue as they were this time last year! Mr weatherman doesn't seem to think so though. Oh dear! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend minus the rain.x

Life's all about balance

A perfectly symmetrical room

almost...

a pretty white dress teamed with winter boots

these ghost chairs give lift to an otherwise heavy table

and on the other hand, these wooden chairs create a feeling of solidity
against the delicate Cole & Son wallpaper in an all white scheme

.... I'll be the first to admit too that sometimes I don't get life's balance quite right!

Chevron or Herringbone?..either way, please remove that carpet!

I've lived with it 2 years and Steve 16 years (!!!), it's served us well (obviously!) but the blue carpet in our living room really has to go! I use the term 'lived with' - what I really mean is 'put up with' and luckily Steve is in agreement that the poor old floor needs a fresh new look.

I'm definitely all for timber, what with a dog who seems magnetically attracted to mud, and I've always loved parquet since my Nanna has had it in her house for years, so I'm thinking some nice reclaimed timber flooring would be just perfect.

The only thing is, it's a fairly large space so it may just come down to the pennies in the end but in the meantime, I'll keep staring at these lovely pictures and cross my fingers and toes!

Bright and breezy

I'm feeling much more like my usual self this week, the sun is shining into the office and a new addition to the Designers Guild Spring/Summer 2010 collections has made me feel even perkier!

I'm loving the Nabucco wallcoverings range, with it's fab choice of modern stripes, delicate florals and geometric motifs. I'm sitting here wondering where I could possibly squeeze the lovely Porden into the flat. Hmmm.....

A spot of bedtime reading

Been feeling a little under the weather today. sniff sniff.

What a perfect space in which to curl up, relax and with an array of lovely books to hand too.

An inland sea

Whilst flicking through this month's issue of House and Garden, I came across this amazing light installation by lighting designer, Bruce Munro

The images above show how the installation, named CDSea, will look both at night and during the day. One million discs laid on Long Knoll field in Wiltshire will reflect the sun during the day and the moon at night, creating the impression of an 'inland sea' and you can even play your part by sending in any unwanted CD's of your own. Brilliant!

Cars suck!!

Especially ones which decide to break down....not only halfway up one of the busiest roads in the city, but at rush hour too....arrrgh!
Donkey's are definitely the way forward and so much more reliable I'm sure! I snapped this lovely old man from our car when we were leaving a village in Spain last year.

A touch of coral does the trick

For some reason I'm not usually drawn to red interiors but today this shot by photographer, Anna Williams, really caught my eye! I think it's the coral tones to the red which really appeal to me and I love the combination of this colour with the purple flowers. Bizarrely, I think I own every shade of red lipstick that MAC sell!

One chair, two chairs, three chairs, four....

This image from the Parisian home of writer, Catherine Taret, confirms that you can never have too many chairs!! Yay!

One thing which I have always believed but which our flat has told us otherwise.

A day in the office

A few images of our little workspace...!!

Texas Hill Heaven

Today I am loving (with a passion!) the holiday home of Texas architect, Trey Rabke, which I stumbled across over at  A Life's Design. This gorgeous home was designed to feel open to the nature that surrounds it and makes use of local and clever materials such as the divine bathtub made from a galvanised water trough. I want one!!

I love the shower too which is open to the elements with just enough privacy, and where do I start with that rustic table? It screams roaring fire, a lovely bunch of friends, good food and plenty of vino tinto!...oh am I still here and is it still only -2℃?!!

Oh happy day!....

On Monday I found these little beauties and we spent the evening catching up with my lovely parents, who have just got back from a month long trip to Australia and New Zealand....it's so nice to have them home! So many gorgeous pictures of their trip to look at and so little time to post!
